The properties of latex disposable gloves

Latex is a material that can be obtained naturally from rubber trees and used for producing single-use gloves - in contrast to nitrile or vinyl, which are made from synthetic raw materials. Latex also has excellent natural characteristics, so latex gloves fit the hand snugly and are very comfortable to wear. Consequently, these single-use gloves (and finger cots) are used in areas where latex gloves are worn for numerous processes and everyday tasks, such as in clinics and health care facilities, in doctor's or dentist's offices and in care homes, and also to some degree in food production and processing (to a lesser extent, as cross-contamination can occur; nitrile is preferred here). Latex is a low-cost alternative to vinyl or nitrile.

Latex protective gloves in material thickness: "thin"

The thin material measures in at between 0.05 mm and 0.09 mm in thickness, ensuring good tactile sensitivity. The breakthrough time is also somewhat higher than with ultra-thin single-use gloves and finger cots made of identical material. This disposable glove or finger cot is also more reliable and durable.

Quality of the latex disposable gloves

These latex disposable gloves from the Basic-Touch brand are of "basic" quality. AMPri exclusively sells products of either a very consistent basic standard of quality, a more deluxe "classic" quality or top-notch "premium" quality. The powder-free, non-sterile, disposable glove is ambidextrous (can be used on either hand). It has no extra length, which means it does not offer splash protection. These single-use gloves are fully textured. Fully textured latex gloves have first-rate non-slip properties and are an ideal choice if you need to work with slippery instruments or materials. This product features the special attribute "extra grip". The Latex gloves provide real added value because they protect against potentially fatal hazards or permanent damage to health, as they meet the definition of category III personal protective equipment (PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425). Among other things, they protect the skin from hazardous substances and compounds and offer protection against cuts. Medical devices are classified in terms of the potential risk they pose to the patient. Class I comprises products that pose little or no risk. And that is exactly the case for these latex disposable gloves. The latex disposable gloves are non-sterile; consequently, they are not suitable for sterile applications. The AQL (acceptable quality limit) is the maximum permitted number of defective (permeable) individual samples in a batch or lot (performance level/AQL). For disposable medical gloves, an AQL level for impermeability of a maximum of 1.5 is required by the EN 455-1 standard - which the Latex protective gloves fulfil exactly.

Our recommendations for how latex protective gloves should be used

These latex disposable gloves are appropriate for handling food. They are particularly intended for dry food and watery food. Protection from microorganisms is a primary characteristic of these single-use gloves. The latex disposable gloves protect the wearer against viruses, bacteria and fungi. The latex gloves provide chemical protection (chemical protection type B) against penetration as defined by the EN 374 standard. EN 374 sets the minimum penetration time for a defined length of time and for a particular number of chemicals from a list of specified test chemicals. Type A = 6 test chemicals/30 minutes, Type B = 3 test chemicals/30 minutes, Type C = 1 test chemical/10 minutes. What's more, the latex gloves are airtight and watertight. We therefore recommend latex protective gloves for these sectors: occupational safety, hospitals, close-contact services, industry, other medicine, government authorities, the food industry and education. If you have any questions about the potential uses of these latex protective gloves or are wondering if they are right for your needs, please feel free to contact us via the contact form!

The benefits of latex as a hand protection material

  • Latex is a natural product of rubber trees; it is highly stretchable and hard-wearing.
  • The tactile sensitivity is ideal.
  • It also offers protection against a wide range of acids and alkalis.

Latex gloves: the disadvantages of latex

  • Unfortunately, volatile prices cannot be ruled out, as latex is a natural raw material dependent on harvest quantities and market prices.
  • Water-soluble proteins contained in latex can trigger allergies if the gloves are worn frequently. Alongside the latex products themselves, the powder on the latex protective gloves or finger cots (powdered version) is also a serious trigger of allergies.
  • Oils and solvents can easily penetrate latex protective gloves and finger cots, which is why latex is not intended for handling such substances.
