Determining the right size for disposable gloves


Why is the right size so important for disposable gloves? 

Disposable gloves that are too tight can be very uncomfortable on the hands, while disposable gloves that are too large worsen the sense of touch and thus also hinder work.

Correct determination of the size of the PPE disposable glove

PPE disposable gloves are specified in sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. 

To determine the correct size of your disposable gloves, all you need is a flexible measuring tape and the illustration below. The correct size of your disposable gloves is important so that you can reliably carry out precise work with the disposable gloves over a longer period of time. First measure the circumference of your hand at the widest point with a tape measure. This is usually at about the level of the knuckles. The tape measure should rest on the skin, but not press against the hand or cut into the skin. 


Now read off the circumference of your hand and use the diagram to determine the appropriate glove size.





Correctly determine the size of the disposable medical glove

Medical disposable gloves are specified in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. 


To determine the correct size of a disposable medical glove, the width of the palm from the beginning of the index finger to the lowest point of the little finger is used. Usually, the width of the disposable glove is measured rather than the palm.

081305-7 Reusable gloves from SolidSafety in black (size L)

Protect your hands in the lab: chemical protection gloves from SolidSafety are valuable tools in laboratories and when handling chemicals. The gloves in "Premium" quality are a useful way to stay safe at work and, if cleaned correctly, they can be used several times over for a long time to come. The gloves are made of butyl/viton - a material that makes them especially suitable for work in laboratories and in the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to their unobtrusive black colouring, the gloves are appropriate for use in any setting. The reusable work safety gloves were subjected to abrasion-resistance testing and achieved level 3, which means the product is considered highly abrasion-resistant. By way of comparison: level 2 in this test must survive up to 1999 revolutions of a rotating disc coated with emery paper. Gloves categorised as level 3 have to withstand up to 7999 revolutions. In terms of tear resistance, the gloves achieved a rating of 1 (scale of 0 to 4). For a rating of 1, the gloves need to be able to resist a tensile force of 10 Newtons or more during the test. The protective gloves were granted a level 1 in puncture-resistance testing. These tests involve a nail being pressed onto the sample glove. To achieve a level 0 rating, the product has to resist a force of 0 to 20 Newtons; for a rating of 1, it must withstand 20 to 60 Newtons of applied force.

The chemical protection gloves offer significant added value because they protect against deadly hazards or permanent adverse health effects, as they fulfil the definition of category III personal protective equipment (PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425). Among other things, they protect the skin from harmful substances and compounds and provide protection against cuts. Consequently, the gloves are in line with the European and international standards EN 388, EN 374, EN 407, EN 511, EN 420 and ISO 21420.
