EN 407
EN 407:2020 standardises protective gloves against thermal risks and defines six independently tested performance parameters:
1. Flammability (code letter a): Classes 0-4 - resistance to flames
2. Contact heat (b): Classes 0-4 - protection on brief contact with hot surfaces
3. Convective heat (c): Classes 0-4 - protection against hot air and flames
4. Radiant heat (d): Classes 0-4 - protection against infrared/radiant heat
5. Small molten metal splashes (e): Classes 0-4 - resistance to small molten metal splashes
6. Large molten metal splashes (f): Classes 0-3 - resistance to large quantities of molten metal
Marking: the heat protection pictogram with six classes in sequence (e.g. 4 3 4 3 X X) indicates the performance level of each parameter. X means not tested or Class 0.
Risk class: EN 407 gloves can be PPE Category II (e.g. oven gloves) or Category III (e.g. metal foundry), depending on application.
EN 407 is always used in combination with EN ISO 21420.
