EN 374
The EN 374 series (now EN ISO 374) sets requirements for protective gloves against hazardous chemicals and micro-organisms. It is the central standard series for chemical protective gloves and comprises several parts with different test aspects:
EN ISO 374-1:2016+A1:2018 - Terminology and performance requirements:
- Definition of protection Types A, B, and C
- 18 standard test chemicals (A-R)
- Classification by permeation classes (EN 16523-1)
EN ISO 374-2:2019 - Penetration testing:
- Demonstrating leak-tightness against water and air
- Basis for micro-organism protection (EN ISO 374-5)
EN ISO 374-4:2013 - Degradation:
- Testing of material change by chemical contact
- Measurement of wall thickness and tensile strength after contact
EN ISO 374-5:2016 - Micro-organisms:
- Bacteria/fungi: penetration test (EN ISO 374-2)
- Viruses: additionally ISO 16604 Method B
Additionally relevant:
- EN 16523-1 (former EN 374-3): permeation measurement
- All gloves per EN ISO 374 are PPE Category III

What is the difference between EN 374 and EN ISO 374?
EN ISO 374 is the current designation - the series was adopted as an ISO standard and harmonised at European level. The earlier EN 374 parts (e.g. EN 374-3) were replaced by EN ISO 374 parts and EN 16523-1 (formerly EN 374-3).
