A urine bag holder is a reusable holder that securely fixes a urine bag of catheter care to the bed, the wheelchair or a stand. It keeps the bag below bladder level so that the urine can drain freely, and prevents kinking of the drainage tube. AMPri offers the urine bag holder as professional ward supplies in two variants – made of PVC-coated metal or of polypropylene. Both are available from stock and with volume discounts for the medical trade.

1. What is a urine bag holder? Definition and differentiation
A urine bag holder is a mount into which a urine bag is hung that is filled via a bladder catheter. It ensures that the bag hangs in a defined position below the bladder – the prerequisite for unimpeded urine drainage and for avoiding backflow. The holder belongs to the ward-supply accessories in catheter care.
It is important to distinguish it from two similar-sounding products. The urine bag holder holds a urine bag – a flexible collection bag of the catheter drainage. The ➡️ urinal bottle holder, in contrast, holds a rigid urinal bottle. Both are easily confused in everyday care but fulfil different tasks and are not interchangeable.
The urine bag holder is a reusable product: it is mounted on the bed or stand, used permanently and disinfected regularly. It is the mechanical fixing for the bag – the urine bag itself and the catheter are separate components of the drainage.
2. The two AMPri models in detail
AMPri offers the urine bag holder in two material versions that differ in construction and appearance.
09287 – urine bag holder made of PVC-coated metal, white (Top-Comfort). A stable wire holder (wire diameter 4.2 mm) measuring 145 mm in width and 60 mm in height, white-coated. The PVC coating protects against corrosion and provides a smooth, easily wipeable surface.
➡️ 09287 – urine bag holder, white, metal (Top-Comfort)
09288 – urine bag holder made of polypropylene, dark blue. The plastic variant made of polypropylene in dark blue. Light, durable and likewise designed as a reusable product.
➡️ 09288 – PP urine bag holder, dark blue
| Model | Material | Colour | Dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|
| 09287 | metal, PVC-coated | white | W 145 mm / H 60 mm |
| 09288 | polypropylene | dark blue | – |
3. Application – fixing and drainage
The fixing of the urine bag holder is done on the bed frame, the bed rail or a stand. The hung urine bag must always hang below bladder level so that the urine can drain following gravity and no backflow towards the bladder occurs. This point is central to catheter care.
When hanging it in, care must be taken that the drainage tube does not kink and the bag does not touch the floor – floor contact increases the contamination risk. The holder keeps the bag in a stable, freely hanging position and thus supports hygienic drainage.
When transferring the patient – for example from bed to wheelchair – the bag is re-hung together with the holder without raising it above bladder level. This ensures drainage even during mobilisation. The specific handling follows the facility's care standards and the medical order.
4. Material, cleaning and hygiene
The two models differ in material: the 09287 is made of PVC-coated metal, the 09288 of polypropylene. Both surfaces are smooth and easy to wipe. The PVC coating of the metal holder protects against corrosion; the polypropylene of the plastic variant is light and durable.
As a reusable product, the holder is reprocessed as part of surface hygiene: wipe disinfection with a VAH-listed agent from the ➡️ surface disinfection category [2]. The intervals follow the facility's hygiene requirements and the recommendations of KRINKO at the Robert Koch Institute [1]. Especially in catheter care, consistent hygiene is important to reduce the risk of catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
Damaged coatings or cracks in the plastic are a reason for replacement, as they make cleaning more difficult. The urine bag itself is a separate product of the drainage and is changed according to the respective manufacturer and hygiene specifications.
5. Areas of use
The urine bag holder is used wherever patients are cared for with a bladder catheter: in hospitals, in intensive and general wards, in rehab facilities, in care and nursing homes and in home care for indwelling-catheter patients. In the clinic it is part of the standard equipment of catheter care.
In home care, the holder is mounted on the care bed or the wheelchair so that mobile and bedridden patients are equally cared for. The choice between the metal and the plastic variant depends on the facility's preferences – functionally both fulfil the same purpose.
6. Wholesale procurement
The urine bag holder is procured for facilities via B2B wholesale through the medical trade. AMPri delivers directly from the central warehouse in Winsen (Luhe) with tiered volume discounts and short delivery times for stock items.
The holder is often ordered together with further ➡️ ward supplies. Anyone who also needs urinal bottles and their accessories will find them in the ➡️ urinal bottles and ➡️ urinal bottle accessories categories. For large orders, a direct enquiry to info@ampri.de is worthwhile.
