Determining the right size for disposable gloves


Why is the right size so important for disposable gloves? 

Disposable gloves that are too tight can be very uncomfortable on the hands, while disposable gloves that are too large worsen the sense of touch and thus also hinder work.

Correct determination of the size of the PPE disposable glove

PPE disposable gloves are specified in sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. 

To determine the correct size of your disposable gloves, all you need is a flexible measuring tape and the illustration below. The correct size of your disposable gloves is important so that you can reliably carry out precise work with the disposable gloves over a longer period of time. First measure the circumference of your hand at the widest point with a tape measure. This is usually at about the level of the knuckles. The tape measure should rest on the skin, but not press against the hand or cut into the skin. 


Now read off the circumference of your hand and use the diagram to determine the appropriate glove size.





Correctly determine the size of the disposable medical glove

Medical disposable gloves are specified in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. 


To determine the correct size of a disposable medical glove, the width of the palm from the beginning of the index finger to the lowest point of the little finger is used. Usually, the width of the disposable glove is measured rather than the palm.

The properties of the nitrile gloves

Nitrile is a synthetic material that combines many of the useful properties of the natural product latex, which makes nitrile examination gloves an excellent all-round alternative to latex. Because disposable gloves made of this material offer reliable resistance to oils, fats and solvents and protect dependably against viruses and germs, they can be used in a very wide range of areas and industries – for example in clinics and healthcare facilities, in elderly and nursing care, in medical and dental practices, but also in food production and processing, for short cleaning tasks, in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry as well as in hairdressing, cosmetic and tattoo studios as part of personal protective equipment.

Nitrile gloves with a thin material thickness

The thin material thickness of 0.05 to under 0.09 mm provides a very good sense of touch. At the same time the breakthrough time is higher and the gloves are more robust and durable than ultra-thin disposable gloves made of the same material.

They are fingertip-textured, so they are not slippery and can be used reliably with smooth materials and tools. As an item of personal protective equipment in category III of the PPE Regulation ((EU) 2016/425), they protect against health risks that are irreversible or may lead to death. The gloves belong to class I of medical devices, which covers products that have no effect on the body and from which only a very low risk emanates. The AQL value represents the quality standard of a lot or batch; for medical disposable gloves the value for tightness may be a maximum of 1.5 according to EN 455-1 – a requirement these gloves meet precisely with an AQL of 1.5.

These nitrile gloves must not be used in sterile environments because they are non-sterile themselves. Chemical protection type B means that the gloves offer protection against permeation in accordance with EN 374 (type A = 6 test chemicals / 30 minutes, type B = 3 test chemicals / 30 minutes, type C = 1 test chemical / 10 minutes); they are also air- and watertight. A microorganism protection is of course also provided: the nitrile examination gloves protect against viruses, bacteria and fungi.
