UDI (Unique Device Identification) is a globally standardised system for the unique identification of medical devices across the supply chain. It comprises a Device Identifier (DI) for the product model and a Production Identifier (PI) for batch number, serial number, and expiry date. Under MDR (EU) 2017/745, UDI is mandatory for all medical devices in a phased rollout.
