09911-N, hand disinfection liquid by Safeline, VAH listed

The handy 500 ml bottle is the ideal format for everyday ward use: it sits ready to hand at the wash station, in the treatment room or on the care trolley and provides the right amount for regular hand disinfection without taking up unnecessary space.

The ready-to-use liquid can be applied directly to the skin of your hands and spread thoroughly. It meets the requirements of the standards EN 14476, EN 1500 and EN 12791 for hygienic and surgical hand disinfection. EN 14476 additionally confirms efficacy against enveloped viruses, considerably broadening the proven spectrum of activity. This makes the product an excellent choice on hospital wards and in operating theatres. A clear quality mark is the VAH listing, which serves as the standard reference for disinfection in routine operation in both medical and non-medical facilities.

Further qualities of the hand disinfection liquid

The product is frequently used in general medical settings, hospitals, body-related services and industry. Odour nuisance during use is low, as the liquid is fragrance- and aldehyde-free. Thanks to its refatting properties, the skin is protected and prevented from drying out.

How does proper hand disinfection work?

Hand disinfection is essential to break chains of infection and prevent the transmission of pathogens. It is therefore important to always disinfect your hands carefully – both before and after contact with a patient.

The 5 indications for hand disinfection:

  • Before patient contact.
  • Before aseptic procedures.
  • After touching or contact with a non-sterile object.
  • After patient contact.
  • After contact with the patient's surroundings.

To disinfect your hands optimally, apply about three millilitres of disinfectant and rub it in for 30 seconds. Make sure to distribute it evenly, including the fingertips and the spaces between the fingers.

How to perform surgical hand disinfection correctly

Surgeons and everyone working in the sterile area must always perform surgical hand disinfection before operative procedures in order to protect patients from the transmission of pathogens. An alcoholic disinfectant solution is dispensed using the elbow and distributed over the hands and forearms. The contact time follows the manufacturer's instructions and is between three and five minutes.

Follow the so-called 3-step rule for surgical hand disinfection:

  • First minute: Rub the solution into the skin from the fingertips up to the elbow.
  • Second minute: For one minute, disinfect your fingers, palms, wrists and the lower part of your forearms.
  • Third minute: Rub in the hands only, paying particular attention to fingertips, nail folds and the spaces between the fingers.

During and after disinfection, make sure that neither hands nor forearms become contaminated again through contact with the surroundings. Otherwise – or if in doubt – repeat the disinfection process carefully. By the way: keep your fingernails short and, before the first operation of the day, disinfect the nails and nail folds with a sterile nail brush.
