AMPri clarifies: What to look out for in the LKSG!
Engage with the New Supply Chain Duty of Care Act!
Familiarity with the Supply Chain Duty of Care Act is paramount as it stands poised to influence, at least indirectly, diverse business operations. This communication seeks to illuminate key considerations under this Act and illustrate how AMPri has cultivated trust through a transparent supply chain – offering a structure from which our future partners, too, can derive benefit.
With the Supply Chain Sourcing Obligations Act in effect since 1st January 2023, supply chain demands have significantly escalated. Although, formally, the law impacts companies boasting more than 3,000 employees, the ramifications permeate deeper into the supply chains, affecting even smaller entities. These impacted companies, estimated around 900, incorporate their direct suppliers into their compliance processes.
Anticipating the reduction of the employee number threshold to 1,000, effective 1st January 2024, and the presumed influence on 4,800 companies directly, a substantial surge in the number of direct suppliers enveloped within the supply chain is expected.
Where Do You Stand in the Supply Chain? Is your company directly or indirectly impacted by this legislation? Or, does it interface through your customer requirements?
While AMPri is not directly subjugated to the Supply Chain Sourcing Obligations Act, we are fervently dedicated to optimally supporting our customers within the application area.
Sustainability as a Forefront Mission Sustainability is not only a societal concern but a foundational intention of the legislation. AMPri, even in the absence of legal mandates, has consistently endeavored to weave sustainability into our supply chain for numerous years.
Beyond our unwavering support and voluntary commitment to the B.A.U.M. Code, we have pledged allegiance to the diversity charter. Our efforts within the supply chain and our organizational practices undergo periodic reviews and evaluations by Ecovadis. As of October 2023, we are honored to have been conferred a silver medal.
Encouragement Towards Continuous Supply Chain Scrutiny We invite you to observe our supply chain and progress, and inspire you to perpetually assess and align your supply chain with evolving conditions.
Transparency seeds trust - delve into data from the AMPri supply chain:
Over 50% of our glove production occurs in countries designated as low-risk per the amfori Countries' Risk Classification, paralleling Germany’s categorization.
Contrastingly, China is designated as a risk country in this esteemed assessment.
An additional 22% of production is situated in countries rated superior to China.
Indicatively, nearly ¾ of the gloves we supply originate from higher-rated locales than those prevalently utilized in the current market.
In 2022, 50% of our glove production employed:
- 346,366 MWh of energy from solar panels, wind energy, and biomass, sidestepping fossil fuel utilization. This translates to the annual consumption of 86,600 4-person single-family homes or 119,400 4-person multi-family homes.
- In our production strategy, the prioritization of alternative energy sources over coal not only mitigates CO2 emissions significantly but also negates the necessity for CO2-intensive transport to production sites, sometimes traversing over 1,000 km, often via truck.
- This also eliminates the need for CO2-emission-intensive transport to the production sites, which sometimes covers more than 1,000 km and is often done by truck.
- Through initiatives by individual partners in the supply chain, over 55,000t of CO2 emissions have been circumvented.
- Water, an increasingly invaluable resource, is meticulously conserved and reused within our supply chain through a myriad of measures: constructing rainwater collection systems, developing water treatment plants, minimizing municipal water usage, and general water consumption reduction.
Given the impending EU’s independent supply chain law, anticipated to elevate requirements even further, intensive engagement with supply chain dynamics is imperative for every company. This pertains to both corporate and societal facets.
Consequently, every company, whether directly or indirectly affected, must persistently interrogate its supply chain.
Consider the following:
- Where do I stand within the supply chain?
- Which requirements apply to me directly?
- Which requirements are addressed to me as a supplier?
- How can/do I identify my supply chain?
- Can I evaluate my supply chain?
- What influence do I have on my supply chain?
- Does my supply chain meet legal or customer requirements?
While fulfilling all requirements has an economic aspect, citing this as a justification for non-compliance in publicly accessible reports could potentially stymie promotional efforts.
